’Tis the Season for Real Hope

What’s on the top of your holiday wish list this year? For many, it’s not gadgets and things we are thinking about and hoping for.

No, we have other things on our mind: peace on Earth, sustaining our beautiful planet, and kindness and compassion toward all.

The political environment has made many people edgy, even fearful. Now more than ever, we need hope — and not just hope, but real hope.

The only thing stronger than fear is hope

Here are a few things we know about hope:

 • In general, people who possess hope and think optimistically have a greater sense of well-being.
 • Hope has the ability to help people heal faster and easier. Individuals who maintain hope, especially when battling illness, significantly enhance their chances of recovery.
 • People who combine hope with intentional action have the best chances for obtaining the desired outcome; this is what we call real hope. And, we believe that real hope can move mountains.

Think about it for a minute. Let’s say you hope (a feeling of expectation and desire for a certain thing to happen) to lose weight or get into better shape in the coming year, but that hope never creates intentional action. Will it happen?

Some things aren’t so clear cut. You may hope for a safer and more peaceful world, but how can you possibly affect this outcome? Knowing that you don’t have control of the outcome can be scary. How can you stay hopeful and grounded in your daily life when so much “out there” is unknown?

At Mother E, our vision is to cultivate hope and action for a healthier, happier world. That’s why we exist. We understand there’s a lot we can’t control; yet, we are consciously taking a stand for good. We believe there is more hope than fear, more generosity than selfishness, and more love than hate in the world.

And, we believe that we can make a difference — in our own unique way. We believe you can too, and you probably already are! It’s the little things we do day in and day out that can truly make a difference in our own lives and the lives of others, so we invite you to join us in moving mountains by practicing real hope daily.

Not sure where to start? Here are 5 ideas to help you cultivate hope and action toward a healthier, happier world for you and those around you:

1) Start each day with the power of ritual to connect you with your essence and higher purpose.

According to an article in Scientific American written by Harvard professors, research demonstrates that rituals can have a causal impact on people’s thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Develop a morning routine that grounds you in your core values and the difference you wish to make in this world: meditate, write in your journal, pray, or simply think about your intentions for the day while taking your morning shower.

4) Practice kindness and compassion.

Take some time throughout your busy day to look people in the eyes and make a genuine connection. Smile. Open a door. Invite another driver to enter your lane on the freeway. Consider the fact that each person you come in contact with has their own set of fears, challenges, insecurities, and circumstances; how can you potentially brighten their day?

5) Look for and align yourself with others who have chosen real hope as a way of living.

It’s easy to look on social media and in the news for all the frightening events happening in this world. We challenge you to look for all the beautiful, hopeful things happening; they really are there. Join a community organization or group of people who are making a positive difference. Use your voice and actions to communicate what you believe in. Celebrate and share hope, gratitude, love, and joy!
